This term we have been learning about people live in Tonga.  We were luck to have a visitor from Tonga come and talk to the Year 2 students.  Sione taught us how to count to 10 in tongan - taha, ua, tolu, fa, nima, ono, fitu, valu, hiva, hongofulu.  We learnt how to sing heads, shoulders, knees and toes  in Tongan as well.  It was fabulous to learn so much about the tongan language and culture.

In Room 5 we have been exploring all of our maths equipment.  We have been working together to make numbers up to 100 with the place value equipment.  To make 56 with ice block sticks we needed 5 bundles of ten and 6 indivdual sticks. We used tens frames, money, animal strips and much more.

In week eight, nine and ten Team 1 students have been learning how to swim at Karori Pool.  We have enjoyed having three lessons each week.

The newest members of Team 1, students in Room 3 and Room 15, entertained parents at our recent Team 1 Assembly. In their performance they packed their bags, got on a jet plane and showed everyone how well they have been learning greetings from around the world, as they disembarked from the plane and waved their specially made flags.
 
Rakau RhythmRakau Rhythm
Room 2 students have been learning to use rakau. During the Team 1 Assembly they entertained parents with a song, working with a partner and keeping the beat with their rakau.
 
Daffodil DayDaffodil Day
In late August students were able to buy daffodil badges to raise funds for the Cancer Society On the official Daffodil Day on Friday August 26 some students dressed in yellow and painted and drew beautiful daffodils to mark the day and celebrate the coming of Spring.

Students in Team 1 have been learning about ways we can welcome visitors to New Zealand as the Rugby World Cup gets under way. Room 1 students have been practising their poi skills and performed to families and friends at the recent Team 1 Assembly.
 
Learning to AddLearning to Add
Students in Room 1 have been practising their addition skills using a variety of materials, including picture books.
