Team 3 - Term 2 2012

New High WireNew High Wire
On Wednesday 13th of June we had a builder come in to build a new high wire for us. We had him come in because our old high wire was getting very old and wrecked. Everyone is very pleased because our new high wire is much higher than our old one and it is also much safer and it is a different colour as well. It is like a blue kind of colour now and everyone really seems to love it so if you ever see the high wire make sure you go and have a go!!!

Character DescriptionsCharacter Descriptions
In Team Three we have been writing character descriptions on members of our family or our pets. At first we made brainstorms with photos of people and then we brought in a photo of the person we were going to write about and made a brainstorm about them. We learned about visible and invisible features. Once our brainstorms contained enough information we started writing our first draft. This took us about half an hour. Then we did one or 2 more edited copies until we were finally happy with the result. Here is a photo to show you how they ended up.

Library DisplaysLibrary Displays
In the Northland School library our beloved librarians Rachel, Jane and many other students come up with jaw dropping displays for all ages. A display is where, in a corner of the library Rachel, Jane or student librarians set up a display about a series, author or subject using fitting materials and books. Displays are made to get people interested in the books that are there and also slightly explain why the other students and classmates should read them. Soon there will be a display about fairy tales set up by Rachel. Overall the library displays are useful, cool and decorative to the Northland School library.

Sun ArtSun Art
This term we have been doing sun art. First we had to draw a design on paper and then we had to draw four more. Once we had drawn four we chose our best or favourite sun. Once we had chosen our sun we had to start colouring it in. Then we had to trace our suns onto the calico with sharpie. Once we had done that we had to colour them with dye. We used the colours that we liked and that we thought went well together. When we had coloured them with dye we added some final touches and they now are looking amazing so make sure to look out for them in your child’s classroom!

NS Cross Country RaceNS Cross Country Race
At the Northland School cross country we have heats. Those heats are separated into groups of year 5 boys, year 5 girls, year 6 boys and year 6 girls. Then we start the race with a big bang of Mr Edwards’s (the principal of the school) wood clappers. Once the race has started every one needs to run a route which goes like this:
We run around Northland Park field, go up steps which lead to Seaview Terrace, run along the footpath until we get to the zigzag path and run back to the field and do it 2 more times! And then the first 6 get into Western Zones and the people who came 7th and 8th will be reserves.
