Northland School has a new school website! You can search for the webteam, emails, and latest news so much more easily. You can see pictures of students playing, learning and just having fun. Character DescriptionsCharacter Descriptions
Room 11 read some character descriptions written by other students from different schools. We discussed what was good about them and what was maybe not so good about them and what we would do differently. Then we created our own. We started off by thinking of whom or what we would like to write about. Then we got started. We used lots of powerful language features and descriptions. We wrote really great descriptions and I think mine was one of the best pieces of writing that I have done.

On Friday the 30th of September Room 9 had a savoury shared lunch because Jana was leaving to go to Tonga for the rest of the year. My favourites were the sausage rolls and the choc chip muffins, mmm!

All Blacks ResearchAll Blacks Research
The teachers in Team 3 decided to do something different for homework. They decided that we should do research on the All Blacks for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Everyone chose an All Black to research. At home we collected information using the internet and books from the library. We had two weeks to do this project. When we had finished our project we took it to school and presented it to the class. Before we did this homework I wasn’t interested in the All Blacks, but now I’ve gotten into them a bit more.

GymnasticsGymnastics
Every week Team 3 are in mid-air forward rolling onto a large blue mat. It was Wednesday 8th when Room 9 was in the Viggers doing gymnastics second. What we do is we have three activities including balance, jumping, then staying on a thin platform.

Bake SaleBake Sale
Team 4 held a bake sale to fundraise for the year 8 leaver’s dinner. Team 4 were encouraged to bake something for this event. There were all sorts of yummy food and cake to buy. Every thing was home made and delicious.

Calendar Art in Team 3Calendar Art in Team 3
For our calendar art Team Three decided that we would draw birds. First we practised drawing Maori patterns (we would use these skills later). Then we started drawing the outline of our chosen bird. Once we had finished that we drew the Maori patterns onto our bird. Next we got a black sharpie and a red felt tip pen and started colouring in the patterns. The final step was to paint on a background and stick our bird onto it, our art looked great! This was an exciting project and we can’t wait to use our calendars next year.

On Tuesday 20th of September Room 9 were doing high jump training. First we were getting used to jumping over a soft object but soon we got the hang of it.  Next we can try the bar.

On 2nd of August John McIntyre came and read to Team 3 (he owns a children’s book store in Kilbirnie). He read three books to the Year 6s because we are writing picture books for our little buddies.

Movie Mania Day Dress-UpsMovie Mania Day Dress-Ups
On Wednesday 10 of August Northland School had Movie Mania Day. We dressed up as our favourite movie character. Some people dressed up as people from Harry Potter, zombies, police men, Star Wars characters and a lot more.
