Team 3 - Term 3 2012

Bush PlaysBush Plays
In Room 11 we are making plays about problems that might happen to people in the bush. We are in groups up to 4 and have to have a problem and solution (e.g. someone gets lost, and then find a map in their backpack and find their way home.) We did this because we are writing stories about the bush.

Keeping Ourselves Safe in Team 3Keeping Ourselves Safe in Team 3
This term Team 3’s topic is Keeping Ourselves Safe. We have had a police officer come in to talk to us. We watched a video about walking home from school. It involved rules, what you do when you cross the road, what you do when you get home, not answering the door if the person is a stranger and also never to say your name on the phone when you are talking to a stranger. We are learning about this programme for the rest of the term so we will be really smart about keeping ourselves safe for our future years to come! We also made Y charts to show our feelings about different situations and what we would do about it: it could be contacting an adult or police or dealing with the situation by ourselves. We also did another activity that had cards showing different situations and what would we do if we ever were in one of them. We thank all of the police officers for coming in to talk us and learn more about keeping ourselves safe.

Narrative WritingNarrative Writing
In Room 10 we are doing narratives for our writing topic. For the next few weeks we are doing a narrative about problems that happen at home, like you kick a soccer ball and break a window, you get burnt, or you have to run down to the shops and buy a packet of spring rolls... just to name a few. It's lots of fun!

Production ArtProduction Art
For art Rm 10 are making a picture of our favourite scene in the school production. We make a colourful background and a black person doing an action that represents our chosen act e.g. you could do a person holding a chick for the farm yard or a person in a red and yellow costume for Tarawera or some people in koura costumes for whale watching.

Pyjama DayPyjama Day
On Tuesday 4th September we had a pyjama day. It was really really fun because the whole school dressed up in their pyjamas. Some people had awesome accessories like teddies, bunnies, donkeys, sheep, police bears, slippers, onesies, sleeping bags and a lot more!!! We also had some nice hot chocolate - it was so nice on our throats because it was a very cold spring day. We really enjoyed this pyjama day and hope that that we can have another one very, very soon!

Interislander ArtInterislander Art
Since it is the 50 year anniversary of the Interislander, Room 9 have been doing some Interislander art. For our art we had to firstly draw a line that is about a quarter of the page with sharpie, then we had to colour the sea and hills in with jovey and colour the sky in with jovey. Afterwards, we drew some buildings and then stuck them on to our art. Then we just added some finishing touches and we were done!!!! Be sure to keep an eye out for them the next time you come in to Room 9!!!

Picture Book PlaysPicture Book Plays
In Room11 we are doing plays on picture books, then showing them in front of the class. Some people did their plays on Hairy Maclary Books, but there were others too. We were allowed to use props (e.g. chairs) and shared out the reading of pages in the book. We also got characters to play and had groups of up to 5 people.

Rain OrchestraRain Orchestra
In Team 3 for the school production we have produced a Wellington rain orchestra. This is noises made from body percussion (e.g. clicking) to make the sound of a storm and rain. The lights will also flash like lightning in the production. We got this idea from watching a you tube clip.

Whale WatchingWhale Watching
This term the whole school is doing a production called “Good Morning Northland”. Team 3 are doing the Wellington region for our part of Aotearoa (New Zealand). In room 10 we are doing whale watching for our topic for the production. We have been doing different moves in our underwater dance like a whirlpool, a unison dance of whales and dolphins and some crayfish in their caves, which the groups form out of their bodies. We also have a boat which has three people onboard, that are miming, taking photos, using binoculars and “Whale Watching “. We are having the production on Wednesday 22 August at 10: 30 am and 6: 30 pm and Thursday the 23 August at 6:30 pm, in the sixth week of term, and we hope you enjoy all of the dances from all of the classes in the school!

School PhotosSchool Photos
Throughout the school we have been having school photos. We had to do a really happy smile but some people blinked. We had a class photo, a sports photo, a choir photo, an instrumental group photo, a sibling photo and a single photo. These photos will look absolutely GREAT and the photographers were very organised with everything as well. The tall people were standing up in the second and third rows and the shorter people were either sitting with their legs in close together with munchkin hands or standing up in the furthest row from the camera. We are really excited to get these photos back and are sure they will look fantastic!
